Options for replacing the original engine-driven radiator fan a few years ago included:

1) installing an after-market fan that used weak rivets connecting the fan blades to the fan hub and

2) replacing the engine-driven fan with a thermo fan solution.

I decided on option 2 to reduce engine noise; lessen the chance of another 3,500 RPM fan component bouncing around the engine compartment and because the experts said "it couldn't be done on an MGA as the thermo units were inadequate for the cooling requirements of the A".

I paid $20 at the local car wreckers for two near new 9 inch units.  A bit of a cleanup, liberal use of WD40 on the motors & some paint and they were ready to go.

I decided to install a relay and also to use the currently un-used "F" switch on the dash as a manual over-ride for the thermo switch.  See my "Wiring" page for how I connected it up.

I experimented with alternatives  that included with and without shrouds and eventually settled on the solution shown in the bottom picture.  Over the last few years, the fans have worked very well and keep the engine nice and cool.  The best improvement is around town in slow moving traffic
